The Chi's upcoming sixth season has added another star to its roster in Lynn Whitfield.
Whitfield plays Alicia, a matriarch on a mission to get everything she wants, no matter what or who stands in her way. She falls in with residents on the South Side of Chicago who form an unlikely connection - some come together in the face of adversity, while others take fights into their own hands.
The How to Get Away with Murder star will have a key role in the critically-acclaimed series, which recently dropped an explosive trailer ahead of its release later this summer.

During the one-minute clip, things take a dark turn as Emmet (Jacob Latimore) can be seen holding a gun, before shots are fired. A forensics team emerging from a house, candle-lit vigil and casket scenes then hint that at least one resident may not survive.
A menacing voiceover reveals: "This city will forever be in the devil's hands..."
As scenes show Emmett looking worried, unable to sleep as his actions haunt him, is he responsible for the foreshadowed death or is there a darker culprit hiding in the shadows?

The official synopsis for the sixth season teases: "This season, life in The Chi reverberates between the highest highs and lowest lows. Big dreams are finally realized but at a cost and everyone will be tested in unimaginable ways as they calculate the risks and rewards of their next big move."
Season 6 will be split into two sets of eight episodes, with the first block airing on August 6 on Paramount+ and Showtime.
