Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers: Everything you need to know about the Week 12 game before tonight’s kickoff

Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy said quarterback Mitch Trubisky didn’t say a lot about the importance about of being given a second opportunity to start Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

“I don’t think he needs to say a whole lot,” Nagy said. “He’s an extremely competitive person that realizes what he’s gone through and where he’s at. He’s worked hard to get back to this point, so that if and when the opportunity does come he doesn’t need to say anything. He’s showing it by his actions, even before this week. So now that he has an opportunity here I think this kid is just excited to get back out there. And I don’t want to make any predictions, but I like the way that he’s practiced all week.”

After Nagy benched Trubisky midway through his third game this season, Trubisky will return to the field in place of quarterback Nick Foles, who is recovering from a hip injury. Nagy hasn’t said if Trubisky will continue to start beyond Sunday.

Trubisky called it “a big opportunity” in a Zoom call with media Friday. The game against the NFC North leaders is big for Trubisky because it’s a chance to play well ahead of becoming a free agent, and it is huge for the Bears because they are trying to maintain playoff hopes and break a four-game losing streak.

Trubisky worked all week with offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, who will be calling plays in his second game this season. They’ll have their hands full trying to keep up with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who leads the NFL with a 115.8 passer rating and is second with 29 touchdown passes this season.

The Bears declared Foles doubtful for the game Friday, and they elevated quarterback Tyler Bray from the practice squad Saturday afternoon. Bray will be the backup quarterback if Foles is not healthy enough to serve in that role.

Nagy said defensive lineman Akiem Hicks (hamstring) and left tackle Charles Leno (toe) would be game-time decisions. Safety Sherrick McManis (hand), cornerback Buster Skrine (ankle) and offensive lineman Rashaad Coward (ankle/knee) were listed as questionable on the injury report.

The Packers listed cornerback Josh Jackson (concussion), running back Tyler Ervin (wrist, ribs), cornerback Kevin King (achilles), center Corey Linsley (back), wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (knee) and wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling (achilles) as questionable.
