Chicago Bears Justin Fields makes history, records most QB rushing yards in regular-season game

Justin Fields made history Sunday afternoon.

The former Ohio State quarterback recorded 178 rushing yards in the Chicago Bears' 35-32 loss to the Miami Dolphins, breaking the NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a regular-season game.

Fields broke quarterback Michael Vick's 173-yard record set when the Atlanta Falcons faced the Minnesota Vikings in 2002. Fields came close to exceeding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's record of 181, which he set in a divisional playoff win against the Green Bay Packers in 2013.

Fields averaged 11.9 yards per carry against the Dolphins, scoring on a 61-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. In the passing game, Fields completed 17 of his 28 pass attempts for 123 yards, but threw three touchdowns to tight end Cole Kmet, who brought in two, and wide receiver Darnell Mooney.

Fields recorded more than 100 yards rushing in a single game only twice in his college football career, recording 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven rushes when he was at Georgia in a 66-27 win against Massachusetts. At Ohio State, Fields recorded 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 rushes in a 52-12 win against Michigan State in 2020.

In college, Fields averaged 4.4 yards per carry, scoring 19 rushing touchdowns on 260 career carries.
