Ex-Dolphins coach Brian Flores evidently made a lasting impression in his interview with the Chicago Bears. But he’s still in the mix with Houston, although if a deal is made with the Texans, there’s a growing likelihood it won’t end up with Flores coaching quarterback Deshaun Watson.

First, the Bears.

The list of candidates linked to Chicago is 10 deep and includes some who have been tied to the Dolphins’ search: Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, ex-Eagles coach Doug Pederson and Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Yahoo’s Charles Robinson said the Bears are “very smitten” with Flores. ESPN’s Dan Graziano rated Flores among the favorites for the Bears' job.

“For Chicago to reel him in, they have to talk to Flores and go, ‘OK, the general manager hire is going to be someone you’re comfortable with and you want to be connected with. And it’s also going to be someone who’s comfortable letting you take the lead in the organization, i.e. Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch,’ ” Robinson said on the Holley and Smith podcast.

Robinson believes Flores wants to coach an elite quarterback. Good luck with that, since Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen at last check already have head coaches.

Flores also has talked with the Giants.

As for the Texans …

GM Nick Caserio spoke on Sports Radio 610, which asked whether adding Flores would lead to Watson returning to the Texans.

“That more than likely would not be the case,” Caserio said.

It has been reported that Flores wanted the Dolphins to trade for Watson last season.
