Five Detroit Red Wings players scored in a 5-3 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night at the United Center, the Hawks’ first loss in five meetings this season in the opener of a five-game homestand.

Patrick Kane’s four-game run with at least one point came to an end in the loss, which snapped the Hawks’ two-game winning streak and was just their third defeat in their last 11 games. Kane has 399 career goals.

Goaltender Malcolm Subban got a consecutive start for the first time with the Hawks but looked out of sync compared to Thursday’s 2-0 shutout of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Red Wings (7-13-3) had not led at any point in the four previous meetings with the Hawks (11-7-4) but took a 1-0 lead on Bobby Ryan’s first-period goal, which was helped by several Hawks breakdowns.

Defenseman Nikita Zadorov whiffed on his attempt to board Robby Fabbri, who centered a pass to Ryan as he came down the slot. Ryan worked past Patrick Kane and shot around Connor Murphy’s stick.

Subban shifted to the middle, perhaps trying to cover his exposed side, but Ryan poked it to the area Subban vacated on his left side.

Alex DeBrincat’s second-period goal tied the game, but Darren Helm answered 16 seconds later give the Wings a 2-1 lead.

“That was just story of the game — we had a push and they were able to stick the dagger in,” Hawks coach Jeremy Colliton said of the Red Wings stopping the Hawks’ momentum at key times in the game.

The Wings took a 3-1 lead on Christian Djoos’ power-play goal with 1 minute 33 seconds left in the second. Evgeny Svechnikov made it 4-1 at the 2:33 mark of the third.

Mattias Janmark deflected in a pass from Carl Soderberg at 4:33 of the third to trim the Hawks’ deficit to 4-2. But the Red Wings mounted a two-on-three rush on a counterattack, and Svechnikov chipped it back to Frans Nielsen for a tap-in goal to make it 5-2.

Dominik Kubalik scored with 12 seconds left, and Adam Boqvist had two assists for the Hawks.

“We played decent but got sloppy at times and we got punished,” Janmark said.

Kane will have to wait at least one more game to pick up career goal No. 400. He had several near-misses Saturday.

About five minutes into the second period, Kane’s takeaway in the defensive zone started a rush that looked promising, but Jonathan Bernier blocked Kane’s short-side shot.

Kane had another breakaway attempt with 10:53 left that caromed off Bernier’s pad.

In the third period, Kane had a give-and-go with Duncan Keith, but Bernier dived to glove Kane’s chip shot. Bernier finished with 33 saves while Subban had 27.
