The Chicago Cubs promoted left-hander Brailyn Marquez, their top pitching prospect, from their South Bend alternate site prior to Sunday’s regular-season finale against the White Sox.
Marquez hasn’t pitched above the Class-A level. He has struck out 287 in 257 minor-league innings with a 3.19 ERA.
He had an 1.17 ERA with 22 hits allowed and 48 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings to go with a 1.17 ERA in his final seven starts at Class-A South Bend and Myrtle Beach in 2019.
Marquez will wear No. 61.
Infielder Patrick Wisdom was designated for assignment to make room for Marquez.
