Chicago Fire episode 14, season 11 spoilers follow.

Chicago Fire has given fans a hint at how Lieutenant Kelly Severide will be written out of the show ahead of Taylor Kinney's exit.

Kinney confirmed he would be taking a leave of absence from the show in order to deal with an undisclosed personal matter last month.

In the final scene of the show's latest episode ('Run Like Hell', airing February 22), Kelly is seen entering Molly's Pub where his wife, Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), works.

While sitting at the bar, she approached him saying: "I got your message about Van Meter, what's going on?" referring to Captain Van Meter (Tom Hopper), the head of Chicago Fire Department's Office of Fire Investigation.

Van Meter has been calling on Kelly to join his team for a number of years, hinting that this could be the way he will depart the show.

In the interaction with his wife, Kelly shows Stella his phone without saying a word. Though viewers don't see what she is shown, they do hear her ask him: "Wow, what are you going to do?"

Kinney has starred as Kelly in Chicago Fire since the series began in 2012. His character has also made guest appearances on sister shows Chicago Med and Chicago PD.

The star's temporary departure follows Jesse Spencer's exit from the show, another cast member who had been there since the start of Chicago Fire. Known for starring as Captain Matthew Casey in the show, the actor left the show in 2021 after almost 10 years.

Matthew exited the show as he left his crew behind to move to Oregon.

Speaking on his exit, Spencer told Deadline and other media that it was "hard" to say goodbye to the series, but that he thought his exit storyline was "pretty organic".

"It wraps up 10 years for me," he said "I think it was pretty organic that he's leaving and he's going for three years, but is he? We don't know. It's been a long time coming when you know how these compadres have gone through life and death together."

Spencer made a brief return in 2022 to be best man at Kelly's on-screen wedding.

Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med air on NBC and Peacock in the US, and on Sky Witness in the UK.
