CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A Chicago Heights police officer has tested positive for the new coronavirus. The officer told the Chicago Heights Police Department command staff of the positive test Wednesday night, according to the Chicago Heights Mayor's Office.

The officer will be in self-isolation and off-duty for 14 days as the department reviews the officer's "recent contacts to identify potential exposure."

The police station, which the department announced Wednesday will still have an open lobby, will be disinfected "to ensure the health and safety of our officers and staff."

In Illinois, 19 deaths related to the coronavirus and nearly 2,000 cases have been reported as of March 26.
