"A year of loss and pain" -- that's how Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot summed up life during the pandemic in her state of the city address Friday afternoon.
ANCHOR: A year of loss and pain. That is how Chicago Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, summed up life during the pandemic. In her state of the city address this afternoon, the mayor paid tribute to the 5,000 Chicagoans who've died of COVID, and focused on how to move forward, saying the city's recovery is a chance to right the wrongs of the past.
MAYOR LORI LIGHTFOOT: Our inequities as a city are rooted in race, class, and gender, and thus, our recovery must face this reality and make investments to address and not shy away from these realities. We've adapted, we've endured, and now, my friends, it's time to rise again.
ANCHOR: The mayor also vowed to speed the recovery for small businesses by committing, being committed to, reducing red tape.
