‘Chicago P.D.’ and ‘Chicago Med’ Fans Are Outraged About the Shocking Finale Cast Exits
Fans of the One Chicago franchise were devastated when NBC announced earlier this year that some of the main characters from Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. would not be returning next season. The departures of Jon Seda, Norma Kuhling, and Colin Donnell-which reportedly "stem from creative reasons related to the characters' story evolution"-are a major blow to the cast lineup of the two popular Illinois-based television series.
While fans will undoubtedly miss those familiar faces in the fall, people were more worried about what would happen to their characters this season. It's no secret that a common way to stage an exit for a series regular on a show is to kill their character. (Remember what happened when Amy Carlson left Blue Bloods?!) The season finales of Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. didn't take things quite that far-but fans are still not happy.
What happened to Antonio on "Chicago P.D.?"
Jon Seda's character, Antonio, finds himself at a crossroads in the finale as he grapples with Ruzek's decision to protect him from Internal Affairs.
Earlier this season, Antonio pushed Rizzo-the man responsible for kidnapping his daughter-out of a window. For reasons unclear to Antonio, Ruzek helped cover it up and took responsibility for the murder. However, IA detective Kelton suspects who the real killer is.
The finale showed that Ruzek refused to change his story and tell Kelton the truth, resulting in his arrest. Before he was booked, Ruzek explained to Antonio that he made a choice and needs to stay true to himself. We later see Antonio struggling with the outcome of this scenario as he sits in his car and takes a pill-which probably isn't an over-the-counter painkiller. That was the detective's final scene of the series, and fans are not satisfied with the ambiguous sendoff his character was given.
Is this really the best send off for Antonio? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot #ChicagoPD

Wait...Jon Seda is leaving #ChicagoPD? So what exactly happened at the end of that episode? He took the pill and then what happened? Did I miss something with Antonio? 😐

What happened to Ava and Connor on "Chicago Med?"
Norma Kuhling and Colin Donnell's characters, Ava and Connor, did not have very definitive exits from Chicago Med, either.
Connor found out that his father died from an overdose of synthetic insulin. While mourning the death of his dad, he worked with Ava to save the life of Phillip’s daughter-and they seemed to be getting along fine. But in their final scene together, Ava approached Connor to say that, now that his father is gone, she and him could finally be together.
Naturally, he does not react well to this suggestion from his coworker and former flame, and tells her they're "finished." Ava then called Connor "ungrateful" and told him to "rot in Hell" before walking away, leaving him-and viewers-to assume that she's the one who killed his dad. With a cliffhanger like that, it was hard to believe it was the last episode for these characters-and fans were rattled.
WHAT THE EFFFFF BUT WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN CONNOR AND AVA?!?!?! I NEED MORREEE OF A STORY WRAP UP! ESPECIALLY SINCE ITS THEIR LAST EPISODE! @colindonnell @NBCChicagoMed #ChicagoMedFinale

What?! I’m sorry but what the hell was that?! Connor had zero closure. Did Ava basically confess to committing a crime?! Natalie lost a lot of blood. Maggie has a series cancer?! This is insane. I’m so glad I’m not watching this show anymore #ChicagoMedFinale

It's unclear where the storyline of either series is headed, but we'll have to wait until the fall to find out.
