Chicago Police Hunt for Man Who Allegedly Pointed Gun at News Crew during Report on Gun Violence

Chicago police are searching for a man who they believe pointed a gun at a news crew during a live segment on gun violence in the city.

Police issued a community alert to ask for the public’s help in finding the man, who appeared to point a gun at Fox 32 Chicago’s Joanie Lum and a camera crew while the team was broadcasting from the River North Neighborhood on Wednesday between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m.

As the man walked behind Lum, he pointed what seemed to be a small handgun at the camera right near Lum’s head and then continued walking down the street, eventually heading out of view of the camera.

No one was injured during the incident, according to Fox 32.

Police are calling the man a person of interest for aggravated assault with a firearm, the outlet reported.

The incident happened while Lum was reporting on the rise of gun violence in the city for Good Day Chicago; gun violence in the city increased 66 percent from 2019 to 2021.
