Chicago State will be Illinois basketball’s replacement opponent after Wright State opted out because of COVID-19

Shannon Ryan, Chicago Tribune

Chicago State will be part of a multi-team basketball event at No. 8 Illinois to replace Wright State, which dropped out Friday.

The Cougars will face Illinois on Thursday. Illinois opens the season Wednesday against North Carolina A&T and then plays Ohio on Friday.

Wright State withdrew from the event citing a lack of available players due to positive COVID-19 tests, contact tracing quarantine and injuries.

No public tickets to the event will be sold.
