Chicago woman charged in series of baseball bat attacks, police say

A Chicago woman has been accused of beating multiple people with a baseball bat and is now facing multiple felony counts of battery.

Denise Solorzano, 26, has been charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery in a public place, four felony counts of aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon and one felony count of aggravated assault while operating a motor vehicle, the Chicago Police Department said in a news release.

Solorzano's lawyer told NBC Chicago she has mental health issues and has no criminal history. The TV station said she was taken in for a mental health evaluation.

Police said Solorzano was involved in an incident on Sunday when a 19-year-old and a 33-year-old woman were hit with a bat. She was charged at the time.

Two days later, around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, police say she hit a 27-year-old woman and a 31-year-old woman with a baseball bat. Minutes later, police said she took the bat and hit a 34-year-old woman with it.

Police said she was arrested just before 2 a.m. Wednesday.

One victim told NBC Chicago she was exercising Sunday when the woman pulled the victim by her ponytail to the ground. The woman said she was on all fours when her attacker ripped her shirt, scratched her neck and then left. Her attacker returned and said "I'm not done with you," the woman recalled.

A driver let the victim get into her car and took her home, she told NBC Chicago. In another case, two sisters who had a baby with them were attacked by someone with a bat.

The TV station said police believe the woman was involved in at least 10 attacks on other women in the area.
