Here are five events you might want to check out in the Peoria area this weekend.

Peoria Chiefs in action

The Peoria Chiefs will take on the Cedar Rapids Kernals with games at 6:35 p.m. Friday, June 30, Saturday, July 1, and Sunday, July 2, at Dozer Park. Saturday and Sunday's games will feature a post-game fireworks show, and at Sunday's game, OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois will be presenting Kid's Day, with $5 tickets for children and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game. Historical Society bus tours

The Peoria Historical Society will offer guided history tours from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 1. This tour will focus on "Lincoln, Civil War and Abolition" and recalls Lincoln’s visits to Peoria and the people and places associated with the war years. Tickets are $20 and are available at 309tix.com or by calling the historical society at 309-674-1921. Tours depart from outside the Caterpillar Visitors Center, 110 SW Washington St.

Midsummer Night Screams

The Peoria State Hospital Museum will present "Midsummer Night Screams" from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 1, on the grounds of the old State Hospital, 4208 W. Pfeiffer Road, Bartonville. A fear-inducing movie will begin at 7 p.m. in the haunted theater, followed by a Darkwell Museum Trail, completely filled with horror film legends. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.peoriastatehospital.com.

Heights Courtyard Concert series

The Courtyard Concert series will feature a performance by The Holistics from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Heritage Square in Peoria Heights. Admission is free. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the bars and restaurants located in the square.

German-American Society presents Volksfest

The Peoria German-American Society will be hosting its annual Volksfest from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at Hickory Grove Park, 12403 Hickory Grove Road, Dunlap. Live entertainment will be provided by Eddie Korosa, Al’s Pals and Lindenhof Echoes. A German gift tent will be open, offering a number of imported items from Germany for sale. There will also be a Volkswagen Family of Car Cruis’n, which includes Audi and Porche, and runs from noon to 5:00 pm. German food and beer will also be available. Admission is free.
