The Chiefs won the Super Bowl every season that wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling was with the team.

Ahead of the 2022 season, the Chiefs signed Valdes-Scantling to a three-year, $30 million contract. He had 42 receptions for 687 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with the Chiefs.

Those numbers dipped this past season to 21 catches, 315 receiving yards and a touchdown. Like other Chiefs receivers, Valdes-Scantling struggled with dropped passes.

But Valdes-Scantling’s playoff numbers were considerably better. In his two postseasons with the Chiefs, Valdes-Scantling had 15 receptions for 250 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.

Chiefs fans shared their thoughts on the team’s decision to part ways with Valdes-Scantling, a move that ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said will save KC $12 million. Here is what they were saying on Reddit and X.

“It was time,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “Mvs, thank you for the clutch late playoff play. He’ll always be a Chiefs 2x champion”

Another wrote: “I get it, for 12 million it’s a no brainer but hope he doesn’t feel it’s ending on bad terms!”

“Has to be considered a successful tenure because of his form in the playoffs,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “That touchdown in the Championship game vs the Bengals was awesome.”

Another shared this: “Playoff Sammy to Playoff MVS. This move was inevitable unless he was willing to take a big pay cut in a new deal. He’s a rare player who got a bag of cash and rings out of it.”
