Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid addressed reporters in his usual pre-practice press conference on Wednesday.

Obviously, everyone was anticipating news about Patrick Mahomes’ ankle injury. That’s why it was a bit shocking to hear Andy Reid open up things up by reporting everyone would practice and confirming that Mahomes would too be at practice.

“Yeah, he’ll practice,” Reid said of Mahomes. “He did the walkthrough this morning and he’ll practice this afternoon.”

Reid said that Mahomes did well in the walkthrough and that he just wants to see him continue to progress. He’ll potentially be practicing in full if all goes well according to Reid.

“We’ll see, but I think he’ll probably do everything,” Reid said. “But we’ll see.”

Reid said he might have to pull Mahomes back a little bit if anything. He suggested that they’re still taking things day-by-day, but the team clearly has confidence that Mahomes is capable of practicing to the fullest extent as things get underway on Wednesday.

“He’s had injuries before, so he can bank on that past experience that he’s had,” Reid said. “He’ll be fine. It’s just a matter of making sure that he’s safe, as safe as you can be out there on a football field.”

As for other injured players, Reid confirmed that Mecole Hardman would be among those back at practice on Wednesday. Hardman had been dialed back after recovering from an abdomen/pelvis injury that has kept him out for the majority of the season.

“He feels better than he did the last couple of weeks, so that move looked like it worked to this point,” Reid said of Hardman. “Again, we’ll just see how he does every day here. He seems to be in a good place.”

As for any pending activations for the AFC title game, it sounds like TE Jody Fortson has a good shot to make his return this week. Not so much RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, though.

“There’s a chance either one, but maybe more (Jody) Fortson than Clyde (Edwards-Helaire),” Reid said. “But we’ll see.”
