Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is set to interview with the Houston Texans on Monday.

As first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Texans will have a virtual interview with Bieniemy today. This wasn’t so easy to orchestrate due to the NFL’s anti-tampering policies, which previously would have prevented Bieniemy from interviewing until the Chiefs’ playoff run was finished.

The NFL hasn’t officially altered their policy, but they granted teams with vacancies permission to interview candidates like Bieniemy, only if his current club’s ownership would allow it. Kansas City, of course, granted Bieniemy the opportunity to interview with Houston.

The Texans’ failure to interview Bieniemy earlier was part of QB Deshaun Watson’s growing list of grievances with the team. Bieniemy came highly-recommended by Chiefs starting QB Patrick Mahomes. Now, Bieneimy will get his shot to interview with Houston’s new GM Nick Caserio.

This will be the sixth interview that Bieniemy has taken during this head-coaching cycle. Practically every other vacancy has since been filled while the Texans and Eagles remain the only two teams with head-coach openings. The Eagles had also requested an interview with Bieniemy so you can expect that interview will also happen soon unless they’ve already narrowed down their search.

Fans will certainly be concerned about Bieniemy taking an interview ahead of an important game. He didn’t let interviews get in the way of his preparation for the Cleveland Browns, so expect him to take AFC Championship Game preparations just as seriously.
