The Mahomes family continues to expand its sports ownership portfolio within Kanas City.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a part owner of the Sporting KC of MLS, the team announced Tuesday. He is already a part owner of the Kansas City Royals in MLB and his fiancée, Brittany Matthews, is part of the ownership group for KC NWSL.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to join Sporting Kansas City’s ownership team and strengthen my connection to the fans and the city I love,” Mahomes said in a team statement. “Sporting is a community-oriented club and I am excited to continue supporting the growth of soccer in Kansas City.”

The 2018 league MVP has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Chiefs. Mahomes, 25, was named MVP of their Super Bowl LIV victory and they reached the title game again this past season, but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

One year ago, the Royals announced he had purchased a part of the team. His father, Pat Mahomes, played in MLB and Mahomes was drafted into the league but chose football.

In December of 2020, Matthews was announced as part of the ownership group bringing the Utah Royals to Kansas City. She is a former collegiate and professional soccer player.

Mahomes is currently with the Chiefs as training camp begins this week ahead of the 2021 NFL season.
