Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said this week he plans to diagram something new on a whiteboard, and he intends to show tight end Travis Kelce.

Mahomes and Kelce already are one of the most potent quarterback-tight end combinations in NFL history, and they’re both coming off a huge game Sunday in the Chiefs’ 31-17 win over the Chargers.

Kelce had 12 catches for 179 yards and one hard-fought touchdown, while Mahomes threw for 424 yards with four TD passes and a 129.5 passer rating.

Cheering them on were most of the 73,642 fans at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, including a pair of high-profile fans in a suite.

CBS Sports’ cameras caught Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift doing a special handshake after a big moment in the game.

During his weekly interview on KCSP (610 AM), Patrick Mahomes was asked about special handshakes he has with teammates. Two years ago, a video showed Mahomes’ unique greeting with Chiefs offensive linemen.

Mahomes admitted Monday he and Kelce don’t have their own handshake. But after seeing his wife and Swift go viral for their celebration, Mahomes wants to work on something with Kelce.

In fact, Mahomes said he wants to “one up” his wife and Swift.

“I need to talk to Travis, because me and Travis don’t even have a handshake yet,” Mahomes said. “So I mean, they’re ahead of the game on us. So we’re gonna have to get on the whiteboard, and we’re gonna figure out a handshake so that we can try to one up theirs.”

Mahomes has one heck of a competitive streak, no?

KCSP’s Carrington Harrison said he hopes to see the handshake the next time Kelce catches a touchdown pass from Mahomes.

“Yeah, we’re gonna work on it,” Mahomes promised. “We’ll get it ready for you.”
