Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is working toward a return to football sooner rather than later.

Just how quickly could that happen? While on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers said Tuesday he is hoping to return this season from the torn Achilles injury he suffered in the Jets’ opener.

ESPN reported Rodgers told McAfee he plans to “attack this rehab as hard as we can and then see where we’re at in a couple months. And, obviously, I’d like us to be alive and winning for that even being in the conversation. But I don’t think it hurts at all to put that into the manifestation zeitgeist.”

The Cleveland Clinic said a full recovery from a torn Achilles usually takes roughly four to six months.

That timetable would be late in the regular season or the playoffs for Rodgers’ return.

There is at least one person who believes Rogers could come back this season: Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“If he wants to do it, man, he’s one of the guys that can do it. I mean, he has that mentality and stuff like that,” Mahomes said Monday during his weekly visit on KCSP (610 AM).

Mahomes met with Rodgers before the Chiefs’ 23-20 win over the Jets on “Sunday Night Football” in what NFL fans had hoped would be the first matchup between the star quarterbacks.

They’ve not played against each other for a variety of reasons, but Mahomes and Rodgers know each other well.

“Obviously, I’ve played some golf with him, I’ve shot some commercials with him and he’s a good dude, man,” Mahomes said. “We talk a lot. And someone that I watched a lot growing up, so it’s always cool to get advice from him when I can, and he’s willing to give it.”

Mahomes said as a football fan, he’s pulling for Rodgers to make a rapid return.

“Hopefully he does come back,” Mahomes said. “It’d be awesome for the game of football and just for the NFL in general for him to get back out there. And I mean, I want to play him at least once before he’s done playing. So maybe it’s either in the playoffs or next year.”
