Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has added another achievement to his seemingly endless list of career accolades.

Last week, Mahomes moved up the franchise leaderboards in passing touchdowns. In September of 2020, Mahomes became the fastest to 10,000 career passing yards. This week, Mahomes has added another pace record for passing yards.

With 168 passing yards against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Mahomes has reached 15,000 career passing yards quicker than any QB in NFL history.

The previous record-holder was current Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who took the record back in 2013. It took Stafford 53 games back when he was quarterbacking the Detroit Lions to hit 15,000 career passing yards. Mahomes was able to reach this impressive feat in just 49 career games.

This is going to be a tough record for others to beat in the coming years. Mahomes is the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards per game, with a 309.0 average since 2017 according to Pro Football Reference. Even with the wave of new talent at the quarterback position entering the NFL and the pass-happy era of Football, no one is really coming close to these numbers. For example, Deshaun Watson is averaging a whole 40 yards less passing per game than Mahomes.

This type of production and pace is rarely achieved, and the NFL hasn’t quite seen anything like it before. There’s no telling how long it’ll take before they see something like it again.
