Chiefs TE Travis Kelce reacts to Derwin James body slam on ‘New Heights’ podcast

Derwin James’ wrestling-like tackle of Travis Kelce was one of the most-talked-about plays last Thursday night during the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The body slam had social media, critics, and fellow players talking. Now, we finally have a reaction Kelce.

In the latest episode of Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, the brothers waste no time discussing the play. Jason, the starting center for the Philadelphia Eagles, posed the question bluntly with a half smirk for his little brother.

“How did it feel when Derwin James, absolutely, I mean, power bombed the shit out of you on national television,” Jason asked.

Travis didn’t hesitate to respond, holding back a laugh of his own in the process.

“Well, it’s not my first time getting power bombed, but ya know, I turned, I made a cutback, and then all of a sudden, he is on me like lightning,” Travis explained. “I mean, he surprised the shit out of me. Lower man always wins and football when I felt him wrap his arms around my legs. I’m chuckling in my mind. I’m like, ‘This is not about to end well for me right now.’ I’m going up. What goes up must come down! The Body Slam was funny but what was even more comical is the fact that he asked me after the play or after that drive he’s, like, ‘Bro, you good?’ What a great guy, man. What a great guy.”

After a brief laugh, Jason agreed, calling James a, “solid dude.”

The incident would’ve been embarrassing for most NFL players, but Travis’ personality won’t let the moment get overblown. He handled it with humor and humility while crediting James’ tackle, eliminating any chance of it becoming a distraction when the teams meet again later in the season.
