A 61-year-old father is facing charges including vehicular homicide and child neglect after a south Nashville crash Wednesday that injured him, his 3-year-old daughter and left his 4-year-old son dead.

The single-vehicle crash took place just before 8:11 a.m. on Bell Road near Hickory Hollow Parkway in Antioch, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported.

According to a preliminary report from MNPD, Alexander Nwaibe was driving his 2012 Mercedes GL4 west on Bell Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, traveled down a sidewalk, struck a brick culvert and began fishtailing.

The car rolled several times, during which the children were ejected.

Neither child was restrained, police said.

The 4-year-old boy was rushed to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where police said he died.  His 3-year-old sister suffered  on-life-threatening injuries.

Their father, who police said was wearing a seatbelt, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

Police said there was no sign of impairment on his part at the scene

He will face charges including vehicular homicide, aggravated child endangerment and aggravated child neglect upon his hospital discharge, MNPD reported.

Two children were ejected and one has died after a single-car crash on Bell Road near Hickory Hollow Parkway on Wednesday morning, Nashville police said. The father of the children was also injured and is hospitalized.
