Child dies in crash Sunday in Constantine Township

An 11-year-old girl died in a crash Sunday in Constantine Township.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said a 49-year-old woman, of Bristol, Ind., was driving south on Klett Road when she did not see a stop sign at Quaker Street and proceeded through the intersection. The car struck an eastbound SUV driven by a 32-year-old man. The girl was a passenger in the SUV and was declared deceased at the crash scene.

The driver and two additional children in the SUV sustained minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Constantine Police and firefighters, Three Rivers firefighters, LifeCare Ambulance, White Pigeon police and Michigan DNR.
