Child dies from injuries in car accident in Edgefield County

Jan. 13—A child has died following a car accident on S.C. Highway 19 near Samuel E. Diggs Road.

On Monday, two vehicles were involved in an accident in Edgefield County that turned fatal.

A 2017 Kia Forte sedan, transporting three children, was traveling west on Samuel E. Diggs Road and attempted to cross S.C.-19 when it was struck by a 1998 Freightliner tractor, according to a release from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.

The driver and three children inside the Kia were transported to Augusta University Medical Center.

One of the children succumbed to their injuries on Wednesday, according to the release.

The identity of the child has not been released.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
