Child injured on ride in OOB amusement park

Jul. 18—A child was injured on a ride at Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach on Saturday night, prompting local officials to notify state inspectors as required when anyone is seriously injured on an amusement ride in Maine.

The fire department was called to the beachside amusement park just after 6 p.m. for a report that a person was injured on a ride, said Chief Fred LaMontagne. The injured person was transported to a local hospital.

LaMontagne said health privacy laws prevent him from releasing any other details about the incident, including the age of the person and the extent of their injuries. A spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety confirmed the injured person is a child and that the Fire Marshal's Office has opened an investigation, but was awaiting further details Monday afternoon. The state Fire Marshal's Office was notified of the incident as required when a person is injured on an amusement park ride, said LaMontagne.

Calls left at the office of Palace Playland were not immediately returned Monday.
