Child killed in possible negligent shooting identified: Stockton crime roundup

In the early hours of Friday, May 12, a 16-year-old boy fatally shot his younger brother at a home in south Stockton, according to Stockton police.

The younger boy has been identified as 13-year-old Richard Ornsri-Walker of Stockton, according to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's office.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, officers received a tip about a potential shooting near 800 Flint Avenue, police stated. The officers said they found a 13-year-old boy with gunshot wounds inside a residence at Conway Homes.

The 13-year-old later died at the hospital, police said. His brother was found "in the area" where the shooting occurred, Stockton police spokesman Omer Edhah said.

Officers arrested the 16-year-old around 11 a.m. Friday. He's accused of manslaughter and negligent discharge of a firearm, Stockton police spokesman Omer Edhah said during an interview at police headquarters.

"Detectives are still working on it … but at this point, it's being considered a negligent discharge," he said.

Detectives believe the 16-year-old found the gun inside the home where the shooting occurred, Edhah said. Police shared no further details on where he found it or whether it was securely stored.

The boys' parents could also face criminal charges if the gun wasn't stored properly.

Fatal collision on Thornton Road: police

One person died and two were injured in a car crash near Thornton Road and AG Spanos Boulevard Saturday, according to a Stockton police statement.

The person who died was Celia Contreras, 65, of Stockton, said Christy Patterson, a spokesperson for the county medical examiner. The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., police said.

Just one day earlier, another person was seriously injured in a car wreck on Thornton.

A teenage girl was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a collision involving a box truck just south of Wagner Heights Road, according to a police statement.

Investigators had not identified the teenager or provided further information on her health status as of Monday afternoon.

A teenager Stockton police believe fatally shot someone near Southside Market in March was jailed in San Joaquin County on Saturday after being arrested over 300 miles away, outside San Bernardino.

Officers booked 18-year-old Iosua Sataua in San Joaquin County Jail around 8 p.m. Saturday, jail records show. Sataua had been in jail in San Bernardino County since late April on different charges, according San Bernardino County custody records.

Stockton police would not comment on what may have brought Sataua to southern California.

Investigators claim Sataua and a 16-year-old boy fatally shot two people the evening of March 4 near Southside Market, located on Airport Way in south Stockton.

The victims were Jacob Haywood-Thomas, 29, and Andrea Lee Jones, 24, of Stockton, according to a spokesperson for the county medical examiner.

As of Monday afternoon, Sataua had not yet been charged in San Joaquin County, a search of court records showed. No evidence connecting Sataua to the homicides has yet been presented in court.
