A child lost an arm and several others were injured in a shark attack in Egypt.

According to the Al-Ahram news agency, a Ukrainian boy and his mother were snorkeling in the Ras Mohammed National Reserve near the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday when the shark, an Oceanic whitetip about six feet long, struck.

The pair were rushed to the hospital with deep bite wounds and one of the boy’s arms had been bitten off below the elbow.

Two other Ukrainians and a local tour guide were also injured in the attack but the extent of their injuries are unknown.

A preliminary investigation by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, videos taken by the tourists showed the shark behaving abnormally aggressively toward the group before it attacked.

The ministry also suspended all swimming activities in the area of the attack indefinitely.

While rare, Egypt has reported multiple shark attacks of tourists, several fatal, in the Red Sea since 2010.
