Child recovering after brick thrown at moving vehicle, suspect in custody

Columbus police use yellow tape to cordon off a crime scene.

A 29-year-old man faces a felonious assault charge after throwing a brick at a moving vehicle, hitting a young girl in the backseat, according to Columbus police.

Brandon Roberts, of the Hilltop neighborhood, was arrested Tuesday by SWAT officers.

According to court records, Roberts got into an argument around 11 a.m. Monday with a woman who then tried to drive away. As the vehicle was moving in the area of Hague Avenue and Olive Street, Roberts threw a brick at it, police said.

The brick shattered the back window behind the driver's seat, striking the girl who was in the back seat of the vehicle.

The child was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital in critical condition but her condition was later upgraded to stable. Court records said the girl suffered a fractured skull that required surgery.

Roberts is being held in the Franklin County jail and is expected to have his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Columbus police continue to investigate the incident.
