Here’s how Children’s Mercy, 3 other hospitals are raising money to honor Damar Hamlin

Children’s hospitals in the four cities rooting for their NFL teams in championship games on Sunday — including Kansas City — will compete this weekend, too.
Children’s Mercy will square off against Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in a a fan fundraising challenge, Touchdown for Kids!.
The hospitals are raising money in honor of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest on the field in Cincinnati earlier this month.
This week, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval presented the key to the city to health care workers at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who took care of Hamlin.
Donations to Touchdown for Kids will support children’s heart research at each hospital, unless another cause is specified, Children’s Mercy officials said.
Pureval, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and Paul Kempinski, president and CEO of Children’s Mercy, will promote the challenge at Children’s Mercy on Saturday.
Fans can go to touchdownkidshealth.org to vote for their favorite team and donate to their local children’s hospital through Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 12.
Each hospital wants to raise at least $15,000. As of Friday afternoon, Cincinnati led the effort with more than $5,000.
The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers play in the NFC Championship Game at 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by the Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals playing for the AFC title at 5:30 p.m. at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
