Children watched as man shot and killed two moms, Georgia cops say

Two women were killed and a third was injured in a double shooting in Augusta, Georgia over the weekend, authorities said.

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene around 5:40 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14 and found two women dead, The Augusta Chronicle reported, citing police.

The victims, identified as Mercedes Gibson, 27, and Raven Tolbert, 27, were mothers and best friends, according to WRDW. Both suffered at least one gunshot wound and were pronounced dead just before 7:30 p.m, police said, per The Augusta Chronicle.

Several children were present when the “domestic-related” shooting unfolded, a sheriff’s office spokesman confirmed to McClatchy News. None were injured.

A third woman was also shot and taken to a hospital for treatment, WDRW reported, citing authorities. She is expected to be OK.

Deputies tracked the accused gunman to a hotel room early Saturday where he shot himself, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities are still working to confirm the suspect’s relation to Tolbert and Gibson.
