Chile Protesters Set Fire to Buildings After Street Juggler Killed by Police

Various public buildings were torched in the Chilean town of Panguipulli late on Friday, February 5, after the fatal shooting of a street performer by police earlier in the day.

Video from Friday night shows flames engulfing the town’s municipal building, which was still smoldering on Saturday.

Viral footage of the shooting that sparked the protests showed two armed officers surrounding a man, who was a juggler, according to local media. Shots are heard, and the man then advances towards the officer into the street. More shots are heard, and the man falls to the ground.

Panguipulli Mayor Ricardo Valdivia said on Saturday that the town lamented the loss of life, and said he hoped for justice. Credit: @ppizarroopazo via Storyful
