CHILLICOTHE — Chillicothe Intermediate School was transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and inspiration during its annual Literacy Night, where students, parents and the community gathered to celebrate the joy of reading.

This year's theme, "One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world," echoed the powerful words of Malala Yousafzai, setting the stage for an evening filled with literary wonders and educational delights.

The heart of the event was the stunning display of student creativity. Kids created displays featuring individuals who inspired them, turning the entire school into an art gallery of motivation. The hallways and rotunda were adorned with colorful umbrellas and lanterns, visually reinforcing the theme of inspiration.

Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney made a special appearance to support literacy in the community by reading books to the young audience. Meanwhile, in the "Let's Glow and Read" room, Cavalier football players engaged in a unique reading experience with flashlights, captivating the children's imaginations in a space adorned with glowing decorations.

Amy Fitton, a local wildlife enthusiast, brought in a menagerie of animals for the children to explore, adding an exciting element of hands-on learning to the night. The entire building buzzed with literacy activities, including STEM science projects proudly displayed by the students.

The school's atmosphere was further enhanced by a book fair, a bake sale, a face painting station, and a creative caterpillar craft area. Students were treated to a variety of engaging activities, from writing in wordless books to playing interactive Scrabble and embarking on word hunts throughout the building.

Prizes abounded throughout the evening, with the grand prize being a new electric scooter, sparking excitement and competition among the attendees. The Chillicothe and Ross County Library joined the festivities to encourage a love for literature. Free books and crafts were also distributed to the students.
