Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Star Gavin Leatherwood Hinted He Also Auditioned for The Little Mermaid

Since The Little Mermaid live-action remake was announced, the internet has embarked on a relentless quest to find the Prince Eric to Halle Bailey’s now confirmed Ariel — and it sure looks like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Gavin Leatherwood could be a new contender in the race.

As reported by JustJaredJr., Gavin hinted he possibly auditioned for the coveted role of Prince Eric himself back in August. When a fan prompted him to “audition for prince eric” on Twitter, the actor simply responded with a cryptic, “Maybe I already have,” alongside a flushed face emoji.

Based on his work in CAOS, Gavin could easily fit into the role, so if he has indeed already auditioned, he’d prove himself a great contender. Plus, you know, it’d be nice to see him out of actual hell for once (and in some literal deep water instead).

Much like the role of Ariel, which many long speculated could be played by Zendaya, the role of Prince Eric was first believed to go Harry Styles, but he officially passed on the opportunity in August.

Since then, fans of the film have been scouring the internet for potential princes — and they sure have options. From BTS’s Jimin to Riverdale’s Charles Melton and even TATB’s Jordan Fisher — the internet has more than a few ideas when it comes to dream-casting the live-action Eric.

And although none of the options fans have provided have made the actual list — that we know of at least — Disney is indeed playing close attention to what the internet has to say. Earlier this month we learned that 13 Reasons Why’s Christian Navarro had tried out for the role after the company spotted one of his tweets jokingly asking for an audition.

So far, Disney has not disclosed which actors could be in the running to become Prince Eric, but there’s not much time left until the film is slated to begin production in early 2020.
