The latest: Snow flurries, rain possible on Halloween night in Louisville

Before you head out to go trick-or-treating, it's best to make sure that you are dressed accordingly ahead of the near-freezing weather expected on Halloween night.

On Tuesday, Louisville and southern Indiana can expect "a cold and blustery Halloween" with possible snow, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville. Highs are predicted to be in the mid-to-upper 40s, and the lows could fall into the 20s after sunset.

What will the weather be on Halloween night in Louisville?

"A secondary cold front moving through the region tomorrow afternoon and evening will bring scattered light rain showers with it, and a few of these showers may be mixed with snowflakes, especially along and north of Interstate 64," the NWS said in a statement. "The most likely time window for this round of rain (or) snow will be between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET. After this front passes, additional lingering flurries are possible overnight Tuesday night. No impacts are expected from snow as ground and road temperatures will be well above freezing. Forecast confidence in snow potential is low at this time, although confidence is high in limited or no impacts from snow.

"The main impacts tomorrow night will be from cold temperatures and breezy northwesterly winds, as temperatures will fall through the 30s during the evening hours with wind chills in the 20s. Forecast confidence is high in cold temperatures and wind chills."

Sunday, Oct. 29: High of 61, low of 45. Possible showers and thunderstorms. Will feel like 60.

Monday, Oct. 30: High of 49, low of 27. Cooler with possible rain. Will feel like 44.

Tuesday, Oct. 31: High of 46, low of 27. Possible rain and snow. Will feel like 41.

When will it start to snow in Louisville?

According to the NWS, Louisville may start to see snow flurries as early as Tuesday night on Oct. 31. The snow fall could continue overnight but it probably won't stick because of the high ground temperature.

Louisville's average date for a trace amount of snowfall, or totals of less than 0.1 of an inch, is Nov. 15, according to the NWS. Trace amounts happen when precipitation mostly consists of rain with snow flurries mixed in.

First snowfall totaling at least an inch for Louisville is on average Dec. 26, according to the weather service. Beyond that, an average of four inches is generally seen by Jan. 21.
