Chinese Balloon Shot Down Over Myrtle Beach

Contrails and a white object were seen over Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Saturday, February 4, as President Joe Biden confirmed to media that a Chinese surveillance balloon was shot down by United States military crafts.

Biden told reporters he “ordered the Pentagon to shoot it down on Wednesday, as soon as possible,” but explained that officials felt it was best to take the balloon down when it was over water.

Video posted by Twitter user @joeylopes13 on Saturday, which he said was captured in Myrtle Beach, shows a large white object near two jet contrails.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced it closed airspace above the South Carolina and North Carolina coastal region on Saturday “to support the Department of Defense in a national security effort.”

The Pentagon confirmed that the Chinese surveillance balloon was first spotted over Montana and moved eastward on February 3.
