Chinese dinner part of your family’s ‘Christmas Story’? Check out York area restaurants
The iconic line from the movie "A Christmas Story" may be "you'll shoot your eye out, kid," but there's another well-known scene that makes the movie a classic: the Parker family enjoying Chinese food as a Christmas meal after their home-cooked feast is devoured by neighborhood dogs.
Many families in York County have also decided to forgo making a big meal for Christmas, and instead have chosen to head to their favorite Chinese restaurant.
"We started Chinese food on Christmas when we were solo in Minnesota and family was back East," Amanda Coeyman of York said. "We kept it up when we moved back. Tried to talk about a big Christmas dinner this year and my boys had a fit. They want to keep Chinese food on Christmas Day tradition."

China Buffet, 931 Loucks Road, York: China Buffet will operate during its regular business hours on Christmas Day, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Emerald Garden, 564 Shrewsbury Commons Ave, Shrewsbury: Emerald Garden will be open for takeout and dine-in from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Tokyo Diner, 2300 E Market St., East York: Tokyo Diner in East York will be open on Christmas from noon until 8:30 p.m.
"We go to Tokyo Diner in East York for dinner. We do a huge family Christmas on Christmas Eve, then a small family Christmas in the morning and then meet for Chinese," Mickie Hollinger of York said.
Best Wok, 443 Eisenhower Drive, Hanover: Best Wok will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for dine-in and takeout.
Shangrila Chinese Restaurant, 2150 White St., York: Enjoy Cantonese, Hunan and Szechuan cuisine for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then dinner from 4 to 10 p.m. Reservations are required for dine-in parties of five or more.Shangrila is a popular recommendation for a Chinese food restaurant in York, according to many commenters on Facebook.
Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant, 1434 Baltimore St., Hanover: Hong Kong Seafood in Hanover will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for takeout and dine-in.
Chinese food not your thing?
