Chinese man, 80, sues his adult son for $15,000 for mocking him after he failed a math quiz
A Chinese father sued his adult son for mocking him after he failed a math quiz during a family gathering in China’s Jiangxi province in May.
The incident reportedly started during the family gathering when the 80-year-old father, who was identified by the pseudonym Luo Wen by local media, bragged that he was good at math, the South China Morning Post reported, citing Chinese media outlet The Paper.
The man’s son, Luo Jun, reportedly said he would give him credit if he could prove his claim. Luo Jun then proceeded to mock his father after he failed to multiply two four-digit numbers.
A physical altercation later ensued between the two, according to reports. The older Luo allegedly slapped his son while the latter pushed him to the ground.

Luo Wen's wife defended their son, saying that Luo Jun was a dutiful son and never hurt his father. However, the father claimed that his son had assaulted him more than once.
“How dare he beat me, please help me and arrest such an unfilial son,” the father told The Paper, to which his son reportedly responded, “You’d better call the police, after all, it’s not the first time for you to make the call.”
Luo Jun’s mother said the ceaseless fighting between the two was the result of their son’s "zero tolerance" for Luo Wen's verbal abuse.

The conflict was later taken to a local court, where the 80-year-old father demanded a one-time compensation from his son amounting to 100,000 yuan (approximately $14,840).
The court instructed the two men to write a letter to each other in an attempt to reconcile their differences. Luo Wen, who agreed to write the letter if his son also did the same, reportedly said that he wants "to live with his family in peace and spend his final years living in harmony."
According to reports, the court eventually visited the family and learned that both men were getting along.
