Chinese Military Says Live Fire Exercise Near Taiwan a Success

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) said it had successfully hit “target” areas in waters off the coast of Taiwan during military exercises on August 4.

The army’s Eastern Theater Command said their Rocket Force had carried out a “multi-regional and multi-model constant-guided fire assault on the predetermined sea area.” All missiles “hit the target accurately,” the army said.

The PLA posted video that they said showed the launch of the guided missiles.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed China had launched multiple ballistic missiles at sea areas off Taiwan.

The Chinese Bugle, the PLA’s News and Communication Center, said the live ammunition exercises began at 12 pm on Thursday and would continue until August 7. Six areas were selected for the combat training, the Bugle said.

The exercises involved troops from the Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force, Strategic Support Force and Logistic Support Force under the PLA’s Eastern Theater Command, according the Xinhua News Agency. Credit: People’s Liberation Army via Storyful
