Chinese woman dies the day after her wedding, saves 3 lives with donated organs

A Chinese woman who died a day after her wedding helped save three lives after her grief-stricken family donated her organs.

The woman, identified only by her surname Zhang, suffered a brain hemorrhage and died in the hospital the day after her wedding in Fuping County, Shaanxi province. It is unclear when the brain hemorrhage occurred, but the Red Cross Society of China announced the woman's death on Friday.

While they were still grieving, Zhang’s family reportedly decided to donate her organs to other people in need. They told volunteer coordinators at the hospital that she "had said that she would like to save people by making organ donations if anything ever happened to her."

Hospital staff began the necessary procedures to remove her organs after her family finished signing all the paperwork. Three people’s lives were saved following the organs’ successful removal, which took a team of six doctors.

The organs she donated saved strangers in need, benefiting others and society,” Zhang’s widowed husband said. "I am deeply gratified, albeit still filled with grief. Maybe someday I will encounter her shadow in the crowd somewhere in the city.”

Some Chinese social media users were reportedly touched by Zhang and her family's actions, with one user writing, “Organ donation is a way of living on after death.”

Angel all the way. May there be no pain in Heaven,” another wrote.
