Chipotle is next for this South Jersey town's dining expansion plan

BARRINGTON – If you’ve driven along the White Horse Pike recently in Barrington, you’ve likely noticed the changes.

There’s a Chick-fil-A, Chuck Lager America’s Tavern opened a few years ago, and if everything goes according to plan, a Chipotle Mexican Grill will rise at a location of a once popular sports bar.

Barrington Mayor Patti Harris said the Chipotle remains a big part of the plans.

“Chipotle is still on target to open at the location (near) Chick-fil-A,” Harris said. “We have already done all our preliminary approvals and now it’s up to them to get their DOT approval."

The site was previously the Time Out Sports Bar and Grill. Its liquor license was sold separately.

Where will Chipotle in Barrington be?

Victor’s Liquors sits on the corner of the White Horse Pike and Copley Road. Time Out was located next to the liquor store. The Chipotle would be built in between the liquor store and the Chick-fil-A, which opened recently at the corner of Bell Avenue and the Pike.

Time Out relocated to Gloucester City and opened as Timeout II at O’Donnell’s in December of 2021 but closed permanently 10 months later.

Barrington, a Camden County borough of about 7,000, which is close to Haddon Heights, Haddon Township, Bellmawr, Audubon, Runnemede, Lawnside, Mount Ephraim, Haddonfield and more, doesn’t have an issue with attracting businesses.

Chuck Lager opened at 270 White Horse Pike in August of 2020. Wild Wing Cafe, which had the same owners, was previously located there. A Wawa is also nearby.

One of the big attractions to opening at the White Horse Pike location is the proximity to Interstate 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike.

Pemberton natives and twins Mike and Craig Colby chose Barrington as the location for their Wild Wing Café franchise in 2016. They loved that the location is near I-295 and also other main roads. They changed it over to Chuck Lager in August of 2020. They felt Barrington was the right place.

“It’s such a visible location,” Mike Colby told the Courier Post a few years ago. “When we first changed it over to Chuck, even though it was right in the middle of COVID, that first week was crazy. We were well received. You come off of 295 and you’re right there.”

What else is coming to Barrington?

“We have added Tonewood to Clements Bridge Road and the Old Rail Tavern has made some improvements and added an outdoor patio with covering,” Harris said.

Tonewood Brewing, owned by brothers Eli and Taylor Facchinei, is in the location of the old Mr. Roberts Lumber Center at 50 Clements Bridge Road. The pair opened the Barrington location, which has 14,000 square feet of production space and another 5,000 square feet of retail space, including an outdoor beer garden and a tasting room, in January 2022. The brothers opened the first Tonewood Brewing location in Oaklyn in 2016.

Harris said more exciting changes are in store for Clements Bridge Road, including plans for The Avenue.

“The property across from the Old Rail was purchased and has conditional approval for three store fronts and three apartments,” she added. “They have begun renovation just recently."
