Chipotle Is Opening Over 100 New Drive-Thru Lanes At Restaurant Locations So You Can Get Guac On-The-Go

From Delish

Chipotle has shared its famous cilantro lime rice, guacamole, and corn salsa recipes online over the last year, but making it at home never tastes the same as enjoying your favorite burrito bowl straight from the source. Like many other food chains Chipotle has had to adjust its procedures to better provide for fans during the COVID-19 pandemic and one of those changes has included adding drive-thru lanes to some locations, an initiative that will continue in 2021.

The chain released its fourth-quarter earnings report online earlier this month and the success of the drive-thru lanes was so apparent that Chipotle has plans to add them to 70 percent of its new stores in the coming year. Known as "Chipotlanes," the convenient new drive-thru lanes require guests to order ahead online or through the app, then they can head to their Chipotle and pick it up at the lane without ever having to leave their car.

In a time when many areas are not consistently offering indoor dining due to health and safety concerns, Chipotlanes offer an efficient way for fans to get their meals without needed to step into the restaurant. In the earnings report, Chipotle said that digital orders saw a 174.1 percent increase year over year meaning people were opting for online orders more than in 2019.

In 2021, Chipotle will lean into these trends and while opening 200 new locations, the chain will be making sure about 70 percent of those will feature Chipotlanes so customers can get their burritos and guac on-the-go.
