Chloe Larry silently is on a mission to bring Parkway girls basketball a state championship

Credit Parkway public address announcer Don Harper with bestowing one of the most fitting monikers of all-time on Lady Panthers guard Chloe Larry.

Parkway’s starting point guard and the reigning Shreveport Times Female Athlete of the Year is a gal of few words. Trying to get a full sentence out of her is difficult, an entire paragraph impossible.

But the 5-foot-8 Larry’s play on the court speaks volumes and usually results in her opponents scratching their heads when she zips by them for a putback under the bucket, or steps back and lofts a left-handed 3-pointer that flushes the net.

“The Silent Assassin” will lead her No. 2-seeded Lady Panthers (24-1) into the LHSAA Non-Select Division I semifinals at 4:45 p.m. Thursday against No. 3 Barbe (28-4) in Southeastern Louisiana’s University Center. A win there would move Parkway into Saturday’s 8 p.m. championship game for a second consecutive season. The 80-79 two-overtime loss there in 2022 still sticks in the Lady Panthers’ craw.

“At the end of the year last year, after the final game, I made the comment that it’s going to take 365 days just to get back to this point,” Parkway coach Gloria Williams said. “Between that, we’ve had a lot of practices, a lot of games, but we had the mindset that it wasn’t going to happen overnight. We’ve gone out and executed every game, and here we are.”

Parkway will be led by the consensus No. 1 girls recruit in the country in LSU signee Mikaylah Williams, who averages 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.6 steals on a balanced team. Just as dangerous is Larry, who doles out 15 points, 4.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

Because of Williams’ high profile, teams often forget about Larry, who can throw a javelin a country mile and was one of the city’s best infielders until giving up softball this season.

“Chloe is very quiet, well reserved,” Gloria Williams said. “Her everyday personality and her game personality are as different as night and day.”

Larry is dangerous on two-pointers, 3-pointers and at the free throw line, often cleaning up her teammates’ misses in the paint. She’s a 4.0 student who doesn’t see the need in trash talking opponents.

“That’s what I love about her. Chloe lets her game talk for her,” Williams said. “She’s silent, but she’ll take you out.”
