He choked a cat to death in park and dumped it in a trash can, cops say. He’s in jail

When officers arrived at Indian Hammocks Park in Kendall Wednesday, they found Osvaldo Lam sitting on a bench with “animal hair all over” his hands, arms, legs and face, police said.

He also had animal feces on his shorts, scratches on his arms and legs and “blood and cat fur” on him.

Cops later found a dead cat in a nearby trash can.

Lam, 21, who is from Southwest Miami-Dade, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and disorderly intoxication. He was being held Wednesday night in Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $100,000 bond.

According to police, a man who wanted to remain anonymous, told officers he saw Lam “choking and slamming a cat on the ground, and then throwing the cat by the trash bin area.”

Lam first told cops that he was just sitting on the bench.

“This unit observed blood and feces around the area [where] the defendant was sitting,” an officer wrote in the arrest report.

The officer then went to the trash bin and found the dead brown and black cat.

Lam later told officers that he was sitting on the bench and the cat attacked him.

“The defendant then stated that he grabbed the cat and choked it until it died,” the officer wrote. “The defendant then admitted to drinking inside the park after hours.”

A glass wine bottle was found in Lam’s backpack, police said.
