Students in the choral program at Southeastern University in Lakeland will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York in April.

Daniel Gordon, the choral activities director, will conduct 50 students as they perform Mozart’s “Mass in C Major (Coronation Mass),” with accompaniment from the New England Chamber Orchestra. The performance is scheduled for April 13 at 8 p.m.

The invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall originally came from Peter Tiboris of MidAmerica Productions, Southeastern said in a news release.

Gordon and his students are now faced with raising approximately $100,000 to cover the cost of the trip to New York City, or $2,000 per student, including airfare. Southeastern’s School of Music is working to raise money through concert ticket sales, in addition to crowdfunding, the release said.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students,” Gordon said. “Carnegie Hall is perhaps the most prestigious concert venue in the United States, if not the world. Our students will learn what the word ‘professional’ means in the real world of music.”
