CHP to run DUI checkpoint along this Northern California highway. Here’s where and when

The California Highway Patrol will hold a DUI checkpoint this weekend near Woodland, according to a news release.

Officers will be westbound on Highway 16, east of County Road 97, in the unincorporated area of Yolo County between 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday. The sobriety checkpoint will be conducted by officers trained to detect impaired driving and road assessments will be made for suspected violators, the law enforcement and traffic agency wrote in a news release Tuesday.

California law enforcement is required by both state and federal laws to tell the public about sobriety checkpoints before they happen, The Bee previously reported.

If you’re suspected to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, breathalyzers are available to officers to measure your blood alcohol concentration. Remember, impaired driving includes the use of cannabis and some medications including prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

The checkpoint will be up and running by 6 p.m. on Friday but will be canceled in cases of severe weather for the safety of the officers.

Instead, the agency will canvas the area for violators, according to a news release.
