Former CNN star Chris Cuomo returns to television sets Monday night with a primetime show set to debut with HBO host Bill Maher as his first guest.

The 52-year-old broadcaster was canned by CNN in late 2021 amid scandals involving past allegations of sexual misconduct as well as his ties to his brother Andrew Cuomo’s gubernatorial administration, which ended in disgrace a few months prior.

Famous for his “Let’s get after it” tagline, Cuomo is slated to host newsman Dan Rather, sportscaster Stephen A. Smith, “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg, top immunologist Dr. Anthony Fauci, and former Democratic presidential contenders Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard. “Cuomo” airs at 8 p.m., putting the program in competition with his former CNN colleague Anderson Cooper as well as ratings giant Tucker Carlson on Fox News.

When he left “Cuomo Prime Time” in December, the veteran host said in a statement, “This is not how I want my time at CNN to end,” and insisted he’d been transparent when walking the line between supporting his brother and reporting the news.

A report by the New York Attorney General’s office accused Cuomo of offering to contact “sources” who may of help regarding sexual harassment allegations against the former governor, who denied wrongdoing as well. Andrew Cuomo retweeted his brother’s announcement about his new show’s Monday night debut.

On Twitter, the “Cuomo” host posted a survey asking fans if he should wear his black suit for the first night of his return to cable news. Responses were pretty evenly split.

Cuomo had been at CNN since 2013 after being hired away from ABC News. He announced in July he would join NewsNation, which reports that the son and brother of former Democratic New York governors hopes to bring “down-the-middle political coverage” to the network.

“Cuomo” will appear on NewsNation, which broadcasts on several cable channels available to New Yorkers who can go to the outlet’s website, punch in their zip code and find which three-digit channel on their cable package applies. The channel also streams on services including YouTube.
