Chris Evans officially launched his new gig at Virgin Radio on Monday, much to the delight of his huge fanbase.

The 52-year-old broadcaster, gave his first Monday show at Virgin Radio, after 13 years hosting at Radio 2.

He started off the morning slot by saying: “This is our breakfast show live on Virgin Radio. It’s so great to be back at Virgin and I have to say it’s a real treat. I feel blessed and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

This was followed by a live performance of Lucky Man from Richard Ashcroft.

Evans said of the performance choice: “There’s been a lot of talk about what’s the first song I’m going to play, but of course I just press buttons, I don’t play songs.

“Musicians play music, so how about we get a musician to play a song? Feet away from me, this morning. How about Richard Ashcroft everybody?”

His loyal fans were delighted to have him back on the radio, with many taking to Twitter to share their appreciation of his return.

One even said she was ‘pleasantly surprised’ and now ‘converted’ by the radio presenter’s charms. While another took the opportunity to name his BBC replacement Zoe Ball as a ‘bore’ and that ‘Welcome back Chris, have missed you for the last month.’

A third claimed ‘My mornings are great again’ and ‘Missed this over the last month.’

Zoe Ball has taken over Evans’ Radio 2 presenting duties, and Rylan Clark-Neal has filled in for her previous slot at the same station.

Evans also revealed during his Monday debut that Ball had sent him a good luck text the night before, which he thanked her for live on air.

“Zoe, thanks for your text message last night. It was very sweet of you,” he said.
