Presenter Chris Evans says 'TFI Friday' is returning later this year

Chris Evans has apparently confirmed that TFI Friday is making a comeback.

The much-loved series - which originally aired on Channel 4 in the late 90s – was very popular with viewers and there has long been speculation about it possibly returning.

According to The Sun, Evans has now confirmed its comeback.

Spilling the beans on his Virgin Radio show, he said: "TFI Friday is coming back in September."

The star then suggested that TFI may not be on a TV channel this time around, but hinted that it could be livestreamed.

“The thing is, you don’t need a TV channel now,” he was quoted as saying. “You just don’t need one.”

He went on: “TFI Friday doesn’t have to be an hour long, it could be longer, we could livestream it.

“We’ve got all the annals and the back catalogue and library footage.”

TFI Friday originally aired from 1996 to 2000. It featured live music from chart stars and saw Evans interview a host of celebs.

The TV star hosted the show until the last series, when guest presenters such as the Spice Girls, Davina McCall and Dermot O'Leary stepped in.

It was revived in 2015 for a special episode and it went down so well with viewers that a new series was commissioned for that year.

However, that series ended in December 2015 and it was later announced that there were no plans for a further run.
