Chris Martin Buys Malibu Beach House for $5.475 Million

The 1,816-square-foot modern abode is the Coldplay frontman’s fourth home in the area

Chris Martin is expanding his Malibu real estate holdings, recently acquiring a 1,816-square-foot home in the star-studded Point Dume area. The home, which sits on nearly half an acre of grassy green property, is modestly sized, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms spread out across the single-story residence. But what it might lack in physical size, it more than makes up for in elegant, airy design. The house was originally built in 1960, but has since been reimagined by an unnamed “world-renowned architect,” according to marketing materials, and gives off a minimalist but beachy vibe.

A sliding wooden gate keeps the home secure; inside the unassuming front door, the home opens onto a combination living room and dining room space with skylights, high ceilings, and radiant-heated white-oak floorboards. An attractive collection of bunched lights hangs over the dining area. Separated from the cozy front foyer by a tall wooden divider that reaches nearly from floor-to-ceiling is the high-end kitchen, featuring state-of-the-art appliances and even a wine fridge discreetly nestled within a wall of storage cabinets.

The far end of the space, which is currently being used as the living room area, features an entire wall of glass sliders that tucks away into the wall to create a space that flows seamlessly between inside and out. The radiant-heated patio gives way to a lush, green tree-shaded backyard with a koi pond.

Elsewhere in the home is the master suite, which consists of a bedroom with a wall of glass sliders leading out to the backyard as well, plus as a giant sliding door opening to the master bath, which features a modern, freestanding deep-soaking tub. A different bathroom in the home features a unique mermaid-patterned wallpaper and a large picture window that frames the mirror over the sink, further adding to the indoor-outdoor feel of the house.

Along with his new minimalist beach pad, Martin owns three other properties in the Malibu area, including a $14 million home he and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow picked up in 2014, a massive 6.5-acre property with a 99-seat professional theater that he bought for $4.45 million in early 2018, and a $3.7 million ranch house that he bought last year in the nearby Malibu Park neighborhood.
